Lexington, SC – As September rolls in, we are gearing up for a fantastic event that is sure to be a hit with fishing enthusiasts and families alike! The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board, in partnership with USAngling, is thrilled to announce the upcoming Youth Angling Day at Gibson Pond Park, taking place on September 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. This awesome event is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 18, and it’s totally free! How great is that?
On this special day, participants will have the chance to dive into the world of fishing through hands-on education provided by the International Game Fish Association’s Passport to Fishing Program. Not only will kids learn about the sport, but they’ll get to do so with some of the best: USAngling athletes, coaches, and ambassadors ready to share their know-how.
What can you expect? Well, think fishing instruction and practical time with basic fishing gear. Kids will get to practice knot tying techniques and play fun casting games with spinning rods and reels. Hands-on guidance will be provided as they fish on the pond – yes, you read that right! Experts will be right there to help with handling hooks, baiting, and, yes, even releasing the fish they catch. It’s a perfect blend of fun and learning!
“We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park,” said Vickie Davis, Senior VP of Funding and Events at CCLMC. “This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education.” If you’ve ever wanted to get your kiddo interested in fishing or just want a fun family outing, this promises to be a noteworthy day!
But hold on, the fishing fun doesn’t stop there! The excitement continues on September 27-29, as the waters of Lake Murray will host three days of world-class competition. The Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship is set to showcase elite kayak anglers from across the globe. Competitors from countries like the USA, Canada, Mexico, and even the Philippines will demonstrate their talents in this prestigious tournament.
This year’s event is particularly special as Pan American nations will compete for the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title. Meanwhile, other international participants will be gunning for the USAngling Challenge Cup. This promises to be an exciting showdown that you won’t want to miss!
Whether you’re a spectator or a participant, there’s something for everyone during this incredible weekend. The beauty of Lake Murray combined with thrilling fishing competitions and learning opportunities makes it a perfect destination for families, fishing fans, and athletes alike.
