You can head over to the Lexington County Animal Services location, which is conveniently situated at 321 Ball Park Road. The shelter’s adoption hours are pretty accommodating too! You can visit Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. So grab the family and make a day out of it!

Take it from Tanya Kinsland, who lovingly cares for 15 feral cats and spends over $500 a month to help them. She has managed to capture seven cats for spaying or altering and even found homes for nine kittens. What a champion!

Help Needed at the Shelter

As it stands, the animal shelter is quite full, having housed 433 animals since the start of the current fiscal year. With a new ordinance on the table requiring dog owners to microchip their pets, there’s hope to minimize the number of strays and enhance identification. You can get your furry friend microchipped for just $10 at the county shelter, and the procedure is easy to do on a walk-in basis!

Ending Euthanasia for Pets

Despite these positive changes, there is still work to be done. Last fiscal year, the shelter had to euthanize approximately 1,666 dogs and 168 cats. This highlights the need for community involvement to find every pet a home.
