West Columbia Hosts Successful Meeting Street Music Festival Celebrating Community and Music

West Columbia Celebrates Community and Music at Annual Festival

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — This past Saturday, the air was filled with the sounds of laughter, music, and the sizzling of delicious food as West Columbia hosted its second annual Meeting Street Music Festival. The event drew in families, friends, and music lovers from all across the area, eager to partake in the fun. With an impressive lineup of activities, it felt like a little slice of heaven right in our own backyard!

A Smorgasbord of Flavors and Entertainment

The afternoon was a feast for the senses, featuring 15 food trucks serving up a variety of culinary delights. Whether you craved savory barbeque, delectable tacos, refreshing ice cream, or scrumptious vegan options, there was something to please every palate. Attendees made their way around, exploring the tasty offerings while chatting with the enthusiastic vendors.

Besides the delightful food, guests enjoyed three college football viewing stations that kept the excitement and energy high. It was a perfect way for sports fans to catch the action while also enjoying the festival vibe. For those who preferred a more laid-back experience, many found a shady spot to relax, soaking in the cheerful atmosphere.

Shopping and Music Galore

The festival was also a haven for local artisans. Numerous vendors showcased their art and jewelry, adding a touch of creativity and flair to the event. Attendees wandered through the marketplace, picking up unique pieces, from vibrant paintings to handcrafted trinkets, all while being serenaded by the sounds of live music.

“Just looking for something to do, just get out of the house, and we saw this,” shared Ralph Schmidt, who was enjoying the day with his wife, Linda. “I thought it’d be a fun afternoon to come out and get a bite to eat, listen to some nice music, and just relax.” Ralph’s sentiments were echoed by many who appreciated the community spirit that the festival fostered.

New Features for 2023

This year’s festival boasted some exciting upgrades compared to last year’s, and it was clear that the organizers wanted to make this a memorable experience for everyone. “This year, we’ve got three stages instead of two,” explained West Columbia spokesperson Anna Huffman. “We also added a Friday night down at the amphitheater, highlighting 10 amazing bands.” With an increased variety of performers, it was hard to leave without finding a favorite tune to jam to!

Notably, a new pet station was introduced, allowing families to bring their furry friends along for the fun. “They’ve got little pools and stuff,” Huffman pointed out, ensuring that pets stayed cool during the warm afternoon. The dedicated cooling station was much appreciated, especially for those who basked in the sunshine.

Dance the Day Away

One of the festival’s standout features was the invitation for attendees to get up and dance. A special line dancing spot allowed people to learn new moves by Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor. Watching, joining in, or simply laughing at the earnest attempts of newcomers showed a sense of community that was catchy and delightful.

Planning for Success

What many may not realize is that this vibrant festival didn’t come together overnight. Organizers began the planning process back in January, ensuring every detail was just right. The result was a blend of fun, food, and festivities that made this year’s Meeting Street Music Festival an unforgettable occasion.

As the sun began to set and the festivities wound down, the smiles and conversations continued to flow. It’s safe to say that the Meeting Street Music Festival will remain a beloved tradition in West Columbia for years to come. So, mark your calendars for next year; you won’t want to miss this fantastic gathering!
