These icons will never fade, given the profound impact they have made on country music and the legions and generations of fans they have inspired. However, the list of beloved country music figures also includes inspirations such as Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline.
These pioneering ladies have created an indelible influence on country music, coming to light currently when performers like Beyonce take over the country chart-toppers, and artists like Kacey Musgraves have songs in the top ten. It was the efforts, talent, and determination of Patsy, Loretta, and Dolly that realized the climate we see today. These three women stand as towering figures of musical excellence, their contributions extending beyond female performances.
An Evening to Remember
For fans awaiting an evening celebrating these legends, the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College, Lexington, has just the thing. On April 19, a coveted event titled “Trailblazing Women of Country: A Tribute to Patsy, Loretta and Dolly” is set to grace the stage. The performance features phenomenal vocalists, including Miko Marks, CMT’s 2022 “Next Woman of Country,” and Kristina Train, a Nashville-based vocalist.
Under the banner of “Trailblazing Women of Country,” Marks and Train will bring their unique sounds, authentic touch, and feminine perspective inherited from the women who paved the way. Both these vocalists have already left indelible marks on the music industry and have rightfully earned the chance to pay tribute to the iconic country music ladies.
Legacies in Making
Marks, with her 2021 album ‘Our Country’, has managed to grab the attention of prestigious publications such as NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Her October 2022 release ‘Feel Like Going Home,’ which coincided with her debut at Grand Ole Opry, landed on the year-end best-of lists of Rolling Stone, NPR, Garden & Gun, and others. In March 2023, Marks’ contribution to country music was acknowledged with an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.
On the other hand, Kristina Train has carved her niche as a renowned vocalist and violinist with Herbie Hancock’s band. Two of her latest releases, ‘Rayon City’ and ‘Body Pressure’, highlight her unique crooning style, earning her fans including the likes of Bruce Springsteen. She has collaborated with global music personalities, performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, and made a significant impact globally with her performances.
