This week in Vermont high school sports, the fall season kicked off with exciting matches across soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running. Coaches and team representatives are encouraged to report scores promptly after games by sending an email with their results.
In soccer, Rice dominated Mount Mansfield with a score of 8-1. Lanah Quong led the charge with four goals and an assist, while Violet Clough contributed significantly with one goal and three assists. Other notable performances included Emeri Rasco with two goals and Sophia Chan with one goal.
In another standout match, South Burlington easily defeated Burlington 8-0. The team showcased an impressive offensive effort, with multiple players scoring, including Elise Knoth and Jill Coucke, each with one goal and two assists.
Essex also had a tight game against Mount Abraham, emerging victorious in double overtime with a score of 2-1. Hazel Fry scored the equalizer late in regulation and assisted Bria Breckage for the winning goal in overtime.
In field hockey, Windsor earned a solid win over Springfield with a score of 3-1. Audrey Rupp was a key player for Windsor, netting two goals. Over in volleyball, Essex showcased a strong performance against South Burlington, winning 3-0, with Riley Austin leading with 11 kills.
The matches highlight the competitive spirit and talent of Vermont’s high school athletes as they continue through the fall season. Fans and team supporters look forward to more exciting games in the coming weeks.
