University of South Carolina Softball Faces Tough Loss to Tennessee Volunteers

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 23 Gamecocks suffered a tough defeat in game two against No. 7 Volunteers

The University of South Carolina’s softball team faced a challenging loss in the second game of their SEC series against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday night (March 24). The No. 23 Gamecocks (22-9, 0-5) were unable to secure a victory against the No. 7 Volunteers (25-4, 5-0), ultimately falling 7-0.

Riley Blampied’s standout performance

In a game marked by strong defensive plays from both teams, Riley Blampied stood out for the Gamecocks. Blampied managed to reach base in all three of her plate appearances, showcasing her talent with two hits, including a double, and drawing a crucial walk.

A challenging match for the Gamecocks

Tennessee took the lead early in the game and maintained their advantage throughout, with key scoring plays in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings. Despite their best efforts, the Gamecocks were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving runners stranded in critical moments.

Carolina’s starting pitcher Alana Vawter (8-5) faced a tough outing, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits in 3 2-3 innings. Sage Mardjetko and Jori Heard also saw action in relief, with Mardjetko impressively not allowing a hit in her appearance.

Looking ahead

The series between the Gamecocks and the Lady Vols will conclude tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Fans can catch the action on the SEC Network as South Carolina looks to bounce back from their recent losses.
