Two Men Arrested for Committing Almost 100 Burglaries at Columbia Storage Units

Columbia, South Carolina – Two individuals have been apprehended by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) on charges related to approximately 70 to 90 burglaries at two local self-storage facilities.

Details of the Arrest

Marshall Poston was apprehended on June 14. He faces multiple charges, including second degree burglary, grand larceny, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Upon searching his residence, law enforcement officers recovered several guns, including two that had been reported stolen.

The second suspect, McGregor Wallace, was arrested on June 18. He is facing charges of burglary, receiving stolen goods, grand larceny, and financial transaction card theft.

Both Poston and Wallace are currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Locations of the Burglaries

According to local law enforcement, the burglaries took place at two different locations of Midgard Self Storage. The incidents occurred between mid-May and mid-June. The two facilities, located on Legrand Road and Atlas Road, are thought to have had between 70 and 90 units targeted and burglarized.

The Investigation

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department collaborated closely with the Columbia Police Department (CPD) due to the Atlas Road storage being within the jurisdiction of the CPD. The investigators have reported that they have recovered property with an estimated value running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The recovered property has been temporarily made accessible to victims for identification purposes, and arrangements are being made to transfer it to a permanent facility by July 31. Those who believe they may have been victims of these burglaries are urged to reach out to their assigned investigator to set up a time to identify their property.

The owners of units at the affected storage facilities are advised to verify whether their units were victimized and to contact the RCSD to file a report if necessary. Sheriff Lott has recommended owners to take precautions to protect their belongings by noting serial numbers, detailing the property inside the storage units, and photographing valuable items.

Ongoing Investigation

The case is still under investigation. There may be additional arrests and similar charges filed against potential co-defendants.
