Sunshine Blesses Columbia as Roads Reopen Following Recent Rainfall

Sunshine and Road Updates in Columbia

Hey there, Columbia! We’re soaking up some lovely weather as summer officially waves goodbye and autumn takes its place. With the sun shining bright and temperatures hitting a cozy around 85°F, it feels like the perfect day to enjoy a stroll around your favorite neighborhood or perhaps take a little drive. The SSW winds are adding just the right touch, blowing lightly at 10 to 15 mph, and a low of about 68°F is expected tonight to sweeten the deal!

Road Reopenings in the City

Now, onto some important updates for those of you navigating the streets of Columbia. We’re excited to report that the City has officially reopened sections of Whaley St. and Main St.! These areas were previously closed due to the heavy rains that recently swept through. Specifically, the chunk of Whaley Street that you can now drive on is situated between Assembly St. and Sumter St., while the reopened part of Main Street lies between Catawba St. and Whaley St. It’s good to see the community getting back to normal after Mother Nature’s little shower!

However, the city isn’t putting the roads on autopilot just yet. Officials continue to keep an eye on the roadways, making sure everything runs smoothly and safely. If you happen to come across any downed trees in public spaces or blocking roads, make sure to reach out and report it by calling Customer Care at (803) 545-3300. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Be Aware of Flood-Prone Areas

As we’re celebrating the reopening, it’s also essential to stay informed. Currently, there are several streets and intersections that may be prone to flooding during heavy rain. To keep yourself and others safe, we recommend steering clear of these areas during and right after a downpour:

  • Main and Whaley
  • Gervais and Laurens
  • Blossom and Henderson
  • Blossom and Saluda
  • Harden and Santee
  • Monroe and Maple
  • Wheat and Amherst
  • Adger and Devine
  • Wheat and Sumter
  • Wheat and Pickens
  • Heyward and Ravanel
  • Pickens between Wheat and Green
  • Barnwell and Pendleton
  • Harden and Read
  • Harden and Calhoun
  • Franklin and Marion
  • Franklin and Sumter
  • Columbia College and N. Main
  • Bull and Laurel

Knowledge is power, and being aware of these risk areas is a step in the right direction to ensure safety for everyone. Remember, as tempting as it may be, avoid those puddles and flooded streets!

Stay In Touch with Updates

For the most part, we’re all about positivity here, but it’s crucial to keep the community informed. To receive the latest updates, you can sign up for email notifications, which only go out once a day if there are new reports worth sharing. This platform is here to keep you connected and informed, so don’t hesitate to turn on those notifications for your daily scoop.

Wrapping Up

In summary, Columbia is enjoying some beautiful weather today, and roads are opening up as rain recedes. Let’s continue to stay vigilant, especially when it comes to those flood-prone areas. Enjoy your day to the fullest, and make the most of this lovely sunshine!

Until next time, Columbia, stay safe and happy!
