South Carolina Caps Opening Night of Charlotte Invitational

South Carolina Track & Field opened the Charlotte Invitational on Friday evening, competing in a combined seven events on the first day. The men’s team earned 21 points through the first day and sit fourth overall in the team leaderboard.

The Gamecocks earned 17 points from the 800m invite alone, highlighted by Jaouad Khchina who finished runner-up with a personal best time of 1:48.97. Khchina’s 800m time now ranks 10th all time in program history. Khchina earned eight points and was followed closely by Joshua Kosgei who finished third and earned six points after running 1:49.39. Aidan Hatton secured three points in the 800m race, finishing sixth overall with a time of 1:50.32. The final four points for the Gamecock men came from Ridge Dowe who finished fifth in the men’s hammer with a distance of 52.79m (173-2).

The women’s team saw three new personal bests and earned three points from veteran runner Claudia Satzke in the 3K steeplechase. The New Jersey native ran a new PR time of 11:11.93 to finish seventh overall and earned three points as the sixth fastest collegiate runner. In addition, her time now moved her into fourth all time in program history in the steeplechase.

South Carolina will close out the 2024 regular season outdoor slate tomorrow when the Gamecocks compete in the second and final day of the Charlotte Invitational.
