Lexington County, S.C. got a little more festive this past Wednesday night as Santa Claus himself traded in his traditional sleigh for a shiny SWAT truck from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Gathering to spread some much-needed holiday cheer, Santa was joined by local deputies and even The Grinch for an enchanting community parade that brought smiles and joy to families across the county, despite the chilly November weather.

We’ve seen toddlers, and even older senior citizens who are essentially shut in and they don’t ever leave their home, but tonight, they can come out and see Santa from their front porch,” he exclaimed, radiating joy. Every holiday season, the sheriff’s department asks families to cast their votes for their neighborhoods, inviting Santa to ride through as many areas as possible. Based on those results, deputies map out routes that cover much of the county, ensuring everyone gets a chance to experience the festivities. To make it even easier for families to track Santa, a nifty app is provided so everyone can follow his path in real-time, creating a joyful sense of anticipation. The parade typically lasts about two hours and takes place several nights throughout the holiday week.
