Riverbank Elementary hires new principal for 2024/25 school year

Introduction

For the 2024/2025 school year, Lexington Two’s Riverbank Elementary, located in the bustling city of West Columbia, SC, will welcome a new principal. The announcement of Mr. Nicholas “Nick” Gillcrese as the new head of Riverbank Elementary came earlier this week, following the approval of his hire by the Board of Trustees at their April 18 meeting. The recommendation for this strategic move was made by Dr. Brenda Hafner, Superintendent of the Lexington Two School District.

Nick Gillcrese: Educated, Experienced, and Engaged

Boasting a strong and diverse background in education, Gillcrese originated from the academic sphere as an elementary teacher in the Lexington-Richland 5 School District. After teaching third-grade students at Ballentine Elementary and Oak Pointe Elementary School, where he was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2014-2015, he transitioned to administrative roles.

He has held the position of assistant principal at Richland Two’s Lake Carolina Elementary School’s Lower Campus since 2020 and served as an assistant principal for three years at Sandlapper Elementary School, also in Richland Two. Prior to these positions, he was an administrative assistant principal at Oak Pointe for two years, further solidifying his leadership capabilities.

On the academic front, Mr. Gillcrese is as accomplished. He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Benedict College. He was also part of the inaugural Call-Me-Mister program via Clemson University. Furthering his studies, he attained his master’s degree and a master’s degree in education, focusing on administration and supervision, both from Southern Wesleyan University.

Gillcrese’s Vision for Riverbank Elementary

Gillcrese was drawn to Lexington Two and Riverbank Elementary because of their emphasis on innovative and immersive learning. He expressed his vision for Riverbank stating, “As Riverbank’s principal, I am committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students, teachers, and staff feel valued, respected, and celebrated. I plan on leveraging our diversity by engaging our families and community at large to ensure the success and well-being of every student at Riverbank Elementary.”

Look forward to further updates on this development as new principal Gillcrese will begin his role at Riverbank Elementary on July 1st.
