Reggaetronic Music Festival Returns to Lake Murray Amid Challenges

Reggaetronic Music Festival Returns to Lake Murray Amid Challenges

In Columbia, S.C, Lake Murray is all set to host the much anticipated Reggaetronic music festival this year. The floating music fiesta, which is entering its 11th year in 2024, is geared up for another run on Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Spence Island.

Festival Returns After Pandemic Interruption

Reggaetronic prides itself on promoting a spirit of unity and togetherness through music. The annual daytime summer event was disrupted only once in its history due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in 2020. This year, the festival was again at risk because of an unforeseen logistical difficulty.

Overcoming a Major Barrier

The organization of the event this year faced a daunting obstacle when access to essential barges was near lost. This almost resulted in the cancellation of all the festival preparations. Yet, local Columbia construction firms, including Coogler Construction, Agnew Lake Services, and crane services like Superior Crane, collaborated to salvage the situation. “Without them, there’s no show. Those are the real heroes,” pointed out the founder of the Reggaetronic music festival, Ronnie Alexander.

The infrastructure revamp of the infamous “Malfunction Junction” on Interstate 26 absorbed a large number of barges. The same resources that the festival typically employed. However, the dedicated organizers, the supportive local services, and the expectation of eager fans, turns the situation around.

A Charitable Cause

Reggaetronic’s return is not just a victory for the fans, but it’s also a triumph for charity. Over the years, the profits from the festival have supported Shriners Children’s Hospital.

“A lot of our team members have children now, so children are very important to us. The Shriners are a great organization,” expressed Alexander.

Expanding the Musical Fiesta to Charleston

As if the challenge of coordinating the Lake Murray music festival was not enough, the organizers are now aiming to reach the Charleston area. According to Alexander, a concert is planned for August 24 at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.

Whether it is facing obstacles head-on or expanding their reach, it seems that the Reggaetronic festival team always finds a way to make the show green-lit. Now, they humbly set their sails towards Lake Murray, ready for another unforgettable day of floating music celebration.
