Residents of West Columbia, South Carolina can start looking forward to some strong new leadership at New Bridge Academy. The Lexington School District Two has recently announced the appointment of Kelly Remia as the academy’s new principal for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Remia is not new to the education scene, having most recently served as the coordinator for Lexington-Richland 5’s FIVE Virtual Program. Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner, who recommended Remia, was thrilled with the Board of Trustees’ approval of the hiring at its June 20 meeting.
“Mrs. Remia brings a wealth of experience and training that I know will continue a path of inspiration, passion, and high expectations for our New Bridge Academy students,” said Dr. Hafner.
Prior to joining Lexington Two, Remia spent a significant portion of her career at Richland Two’s Blythewood Academy. She started in 2009 as a transition specialist before moving on to the role of assistant administrator. In 2020 she took up the responsibility of assistant principal at Lexington-Richland 5’s Irmo Middle School before joining the district’s FIVE Virtual Program, first as an assistant principal and then as its coordinator in 2022.
In addition to her experience, Remia possesses a solid educational background. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia College and expanded her horizons further with a M.Ed from Grand Canyon University.
Expressing deep gratitude for her appointment, Remia is eager to start her new role. “I am grateful for the opportunity to join Lexington School District Two and New Bridge Academy,” Remia said. “Lexington Two has established a standard of excellence in learning, fostering opportunities for success in all children. I intend to continue this tradition by advocating for my students and families, creating a community that supports all students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.”
The new principal is slated to begin her role on July 1, 2024. With Remia at the helm, we can anticipate a new era of growth and achievement for the students of New Bridge Academy.
