New Orleans Saints Cornerback Paulson Adebo Suffers Season-Ending Femur Injury

New Orleans Faces Tough Blow with Paulson Adebo’s Injury

New Orleans is buzzing following an intense Thursday Night Football showdown between the Saints and the Denver Broncos. However, it wasn’t all fun and games for the Saints, as their cornerback, Paulson Adebo, suffered a serious injury during the match that has left fans worried and the team scrambling.

The Injury Details

It all went down in the early minutes of the second quarter. Paulson Adebo was in the middle of making a tackle on Broncos’ running back Javonte Williams. Unfortunately, the hit didn’t go as planned. As the play unfolded, Adebo immediately clutched his right leg, sending several alarm bells ringing among the Saints’ coaching staff and fans alike.

With the team’s medical personnel rushing to the field, Adebo received an air cast before being carted off into the locker room, leading to a few anxious minutes of silence in the stadium. The mood shifted from excitement to tension as everyone anticipated updates on the young cornerback’s condition. To top it off, later reports from Amazon Prime’s Kaylee Hartung confirmed that Adebo had to be taken to a local hospital by an ambulance. It was clear this wasn’t just a minor injury.

A Shock to the Roster

After the game, the Saints’ head coach, Dennis Allen, delivered the gut-wrenching news: Adebo had broken his femur—the longest, heaviest, and strongest bone in the human body. Yikes! That’s a tough break, literally! Coach Allen mentioned that Adebo would undergo surgery later that night to treat the injury. According to medical experts, a broken femur can take about four to six months to heal, which means Adebo’s season is effectively over.

Fans might find a little comfort in knowing that a 2015 study in the Journal of Athletic Training revealed that athletes can return to their previous performance levels after a femoral fracture. But that’s in the long run—these things take time. The average return to action is around nine and a half months, so it’s safe to say Adebo has a long road ahead.

Defensive Struggles Ahead

Things went from bad to worse for the Saints during the game; not only did they lose Adebo, but they also waved goodbye to their other starting cornerback, Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore hurt his hamstring late in the third quarter, and with that, the defense was left scrambling.

As the game went on, the Saints’ depth chart was really put to the test. Rookie Kool-Aid McKinstry is the primary backup for Lattimore, while Alontae Taylor took over Adebo’s spot. And just in case you thought it couldn’t get worse, undrafted rookie Rico Payton is the only other healthy corner on the roster after playing a handful of snaps earlier in the season.

Adebo’s Performance Before the Injury

Before his unfortunate exit, Adebo was putting on a show, racking up six tackles (three solo) against the Broncos. It was evident that he was contributing significantly to the team’s defensive effort. On the season, before his injury, he had three interceptions and was leading the league with ten passes defended. Talk about making an impact!

The Saints’ Future

As the dust settles from this tough game, Saints fans are left wondering what lies ahead. Losing both starting cornerbacks in one game is a daunting challenge, and how effectively the backups can step up will be crucial in the coming weeks. With Adebo out for the season, it’s a chapter of the Saints’ journey that no one wanted to write, but one they now have to face.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Adebo and some defensive genius to help the Saints navigate these rocky waters. New Orleans fans are nothing if not resilient, so let’s rally behind our team.
