Columbia, SC – Get ready to bring out your best pair of shorts and put on some sunscreen! This week in Columbia, we can expect a warm, summery vibe, with a high of 91°F set for the day. The afternoon might play host to some clouds and possibly an isolated thunderstorm. You know the drill—grab your umbrella just in case! With a 30% chance of rain during the day, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. But don’t let the forecast dampen your spirits!
As evening rolls in, thunderstorm activity is expected to ramp up, giving way to partly cloudy skies overnight. While you relax at home, you can enjoy a low temperature of about 71°F. Winds will be light and variable, with a 60% chance of rain lingering. Sounds like the perfect night for a cozy evening in, right?
Now that we’ve got the weather sorted, let’s talk about something super exciting happening on the horizon! On September 28, Devine Street will host the highly-anticipated Palmetto Peanut Boil. This year marks the 17th anniversary of the festival, which has transformed over the years from a small backyard gathering to a thriving community event. This is a big deal, folks!
This year’s peanut-centric celebration has cooked up a storm, and we can expect thousands of attendees from all across the Midlands. The festival is a glorious tribute to the boiled peanut, South Carolina’s official snack. Get those taste buds ready because there’s plenty of flavor to go around. Teams from the area will compete for the esteemed title of the Best Boiled Peanut in the state. And the best part? It’s absolutely FREE to attend! What a fantastic opportunity to savor delicious food with friends and family.
The event is hosted by Animal Mission, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of homeless pets. Several initiatives funded by Animal Mission include providing free and discounted spay/neuter operations and improving the facilities at the Columbia Animal Shelter. By attending the peanut boil, every bite you take helps support these lovely furry friends in need. Isn’t that a reason to indulge?
Animal Mission is also on track to help make the Midlands a No-Kill Community by 2025. So, while you’re gobbling up those scrumptious boiled peanuts, you’re also helping to create a brighter future for countless pets looking for their forever homes.
As if the competition and great cause weren’t enough, the Palmetto Peanut Boil is set to be a fantastic day filled with live music, delicious food, and lots of fun for everyone. Bring the kids and the leashed pets, because this is a family-friendly festival! Check out the music lineup that’s sure to keep you grooving throughout the day:
