Lexington, SC – Get ready, residents! The Town of Lexington is thrilled to announce a fantastic new addition to our beautiful community: the Old Mill Pond Trail! This scenic trail is set to officially open on Friday, March 13, 2024, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. It’s going to be a day to remember, and everyone is invited to join in on the fun!
The Old Mill Pond Trail is not just any walking path—it’s a 1.15-mile paved loop that takes visitors on a leisurely stroll around the picturesque Lexington Mill Pond. Imagine taking in the sights and sounds of nature as you traverse the various bridges, seating areas, and lookout points along the way. It’s the perfect spot for a family outing, a morning jog, or even just a peaceful moment of reflection.
This trail isn’t just a quick project; it’s been a part of the Town’s vision since 2012! Plans for this walking trail were initially laid out to enhance our community connection to nature. However, the journey to bring the Old Mill Pond Trail to life faced unexpected challenges. The 2015 historic flooding in the Carolinas did a number on our local infrastructure, including damaging the Old Mill’s earthen dam.
After almost nine years of the pond lying empty, the Town of Lexington has finally teamed up with a public/private partnership to revive this area and create an inviting outdoor space for everyone. The efforts made by our community leaders and partners have transformed a challenging situation into a beautiful new resource.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be attended by our very own Mayor Hazel Livingston and members of the Town Council. They’re eager to celebrate this amazing milestone with you, the citizens! Be sure to make your way to 711 East Main Street for the event, and feel free to bring your friends and family along!
Once the ribbon is cut, the trail will be open for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are an avid hiker, a casual stroll enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of Lexington, this new trail promises to be a treasure for all of us.
There are numerous reasons to get out and explore the Old Mill Pond Trail. It’s not just about enjoying the fresh air; it’s about connecting with the community, getting some exercise, and appreciating the stunning landscapes that our area has to offer. Plus, it’s a chance to observe local wildlife and perhaps even discover some new favorite spots to relax.
This ribbon cutting is not just a ceremony; it’s a chance for the community to come together, celebrate our progress, and look forward to the many beautiful moments that await us at the Old Mill Pond Trail. So grab your walking shoes, pack a picnic, and mark your calendar! We can’t wait to see you there!
For more information about the ceremony or the trail, feel free to reach out to the Town of Lexington. We’re excited to kick-start this new chapter in our community!
