New York City Native Unveils Vegan Café in Downtown Columbia

Residents of Columbia, South Carolina, now have a fresh dining option to explore with the recent opening of More Vegan Café, a unique dining establishment offering a menu filled with plant-based dishes inspired by international cuisines including Italian, Caribbean, American, and Asian influences. The café opened in the North Main corridor at 4622 North Main Street in March 2024.

Celebrating More Vegan Café’s Grand Opening

Last week, city of Columbia officials gathered to commemorate the grand opening of More Vegan Café in a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dist. 1 Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert expressed her enthusiasm for the new addition to the local dining scene. She conveyed the community’s desire for access to more diverse and convenient dining options, celebrating More Vegan Café as a significant addition to the area.

The Vision behind More Vegan Café

Robert Green, the founder of More Vegan Café, is originally a native of New York City. Having been in the restaurant industry for over a decade, Green opened More Vegan Café with the vision of offering diverse plant-based dining options to the people of Columbia and the North Main area.

“One of the reasons we opened up More Vegan Café was to give people more healthy options. We pride ourselves on teaching people health and feeding people health. We are trying to improve the community and make it a better place to visit, play, and socialize with each other,” Green said.

A Closer Look at the Menu

Customers at More Vegan Café can expect to find an array of plant-based dishes that cater to a wide range of tastes. The food is not just vegan, but it also includes raw dishes that are either uncooked or heated minimally to preserve the enzymes and nutrients. The meal preparation involves techniques like blending, juicing, marinating, and dehydrating.

The menu consists of salads, raw pizza, and wraps among many other choices. With the adoption of veganism and the general trend towards healthier eating habits on the rise, More Vegan Café is expected to thrive in this market. The innovative menu infused with a multicultural palate is a welcome addition to the city’s diverse food scene.

Looking Ahead

The establishment of More Vegan Café in downtown Columbia is a significant development in promoting healthier, plant-based eating options in the community. With its unique menu and strong emphasis on healthy living, More Vegan Café stands as a pioneer in the local vegan food industry, setting high standards while contributing to the diversification of the downtown Columbia food scene.
