Northeast Columbia Introduces New Labor and Delivery Unit to Support Growing Families

Northeast Columbia Welcomes New Labor and Delivery Unit

Exciting News for Expectant Families!

Columbia, SC — Expectant moms in the Northeast area of Columbia have great news on the horizon! Just off of Farrow Road, the MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast is expanding its services by opening a brand new Labor and Delivery Unit. This development comes at a time when the region is experiencing a significant population boom.

Community Growth Sparks New Investment

“Northeast Columbia is growing at an extremely rapid pace, one of the highest rates in the country,” says Chief Operating Officer Matthew Medley. “So right now, we are investing in our community by opening a labor and delivery unit to accommodate both the growth that is currently happening and what we anticipate in the future.”

Isn’t that fantastic? The influx of families and new residents means more babies on the way, which calls for more local medical facilities! This unit is set to open its doors in January 2025, and it aims to provide essential services right where families need them.

What’s Inside the New Unit?

This state-of-the-art facility will feature a range of amenities designed with families in mind. Among the highlights are:

  • A newborn nursery
  • Four specialized labor and delivery rooms
  • Eight postpartum recovery rooms

The thoughtful design aims to create a more comfortable and supportive space for expecting families. “Some people want maybe a facility that’s closer to home that feels a little more like an extension of their living room,” shares OBGYN Dr. Todd Kraemer. What a soothing way to welcome new lives into the world!

Reducing Travel Time for Families

One of the major benefits of the new unit is the huge convenience it brings. Families won’t have to travel far when the big moment arrives. “This is an incredible place to be. It’s a special community and a special environment,” says Medley. “We are so excited to serve the needs of Northeast Columbia…”

Imagine the peace of mind that comes with knowing you can reach quality medical care quickly. No more long trips while in labor—just a quick hop to your local unit!

Staffing the New Facility

The Labor and Delivery Unit will be staffed by a dedicated team of around six doctors/providers and approximately 40 nurses. This dedicated staff will work tirelessly to ensure that every family feels supported during such an important time in their lives.

This unit is not just about medical care; it’s about fostering a welcoming culture where families can feel comfortable as they embark on their new journey. “When you walk in the door, our culture and our facilities are going to welcome you and grow with you and your family,” Medley adds.

Looking Ahead

As the opening of the new Labor and Delivery Unit approaches, expectant families in Northeast Columbia are already spreading the word. This is more than just a delivery unit; it’s a new chapter for families in a growing community!

With exciting developments like this, Columbia is quickly becoming a hub for new life and growth. Stay tuned for more updates as January draws nearer!
