Newberry College Prepares for Exciting Homecoming Weekend Celebrations

Newberry Gears Up for a Fantastic Homecoming Weekend

NEWBERRY — The excitement in Newberry is palpable as Newberry College prepares for one of its most loved traditions: Homecoming Weekend. Slated for November 2nd, this year’s festivities promise a colorful blend of alumni reunions, spirited competitions, and community fun, all aimed at bringing students and graduates together to celebrate a rich legacy of friendship and school pride.

What Makes Homecoming So Special?

Every year, Homecoming is a big celebration that captivates not just the students and faculty but the entire community of Newberry. With food trucks, sports, games, and various activities filling the college campus, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a time when everyone comes together to reminisce, enjoy good food, and engage in some friendly competition!

Voices of the Students

This year, we caught up with some students to delve deeper into their Homecoming experiences. First up were two international students who brought their unique perspectives to this cherished event. Meet Renee Dorval from Belgium, a sophomore who recalls attending her very first Homecoming event last year:

“In my first year, I did not expect Homecoming to be such a big event at the College,” she exclaimed. “I was impressed with how the Homecoming King and Queen were chosen, and I think it was so much fun! The atmosphere at the football game was electric; there were so many people cheering for the Wolves. It was an experience I had never encountered before.”

Then we have Sofiia Shaparenko, a freshman hailing from Ukraine, who is getting ready for her first-ever Homecoming experience:

“I am super excited! We have something similar in Ukraine, but it’s different in the kind of activities. I’ve heard so much chatter about the football game, and everyone says it’s a blast, so I can’t wait to dive right in!”

A Student-Athlete’s Take

Lastly, we spoke to Brayden Martinez, a junior student-athlete from Owatonna, Minnesota, who shared his fond memories of Celebration weekends:

“During Homecoming, I love the festivities around campus and participating in activities with my friends. My favorite Homecoming was actually my freshman year. The soccer team had an off weekend, which allowed my friends and I to fully enjoy the football game. The energy in the stadium was incredible; it felt like the entire place was buzzing with excitement. It’s a weekend full of fun, and there’s no better way to spend it than with the people I care about!”

A Time for Remembrance and Anticipation

The Homecoming tradition is more than just sporting events and entertainment; it’s a special occasion that creates a warm atmosphere where everyone can come together to celebrate and enjoy. And this year will certainly be no exception!

Newberry College is poised to welcome back alumni, sparking fond memories and confident hopes for the future. This celebration goes beyond just honoring the past; it inspires current students to embrace the profound legacy left by those who walked the halls before them.

So mark your calendars! Whether you are a current student, a proud alum, or a community member, Newberry College’s Homecoming is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience. Expect a weekend filled to the brim with pride, joy, and community. Everyone is invited to join in on the fun!
