Newark High School Soccer Team Surges to Semifinals with 2-1 Comeback Against Wayne Central

Newark High School Soccer Team Moves On to Semifinals

Newark, NY – The Newark High School boys soccer team fought back to secure a 2-1 victory over Wayne Central in the Section V Class A quarterfinals on Thursday evening. The match, held at Newark High School, showcased the team’s resilience after trailing at halftime.

Wayne Central took an early lead with a surprising goal from senior Avery Bustamante-Seadeek. His shot from 20 yards out, which appeared to be a high blooper, managed to slip over the Newark goalkeeper, putting Wayne ahead 1-0 at the break. As the teams returned for the second half, Newark knew they had to rally from the deficit.

Newark made their adjustments and quickly turned the tide in their favor. Senior attacker Kaiden Carr stepped up to score the match-winning goal with just seven minutes left on the clock, bringing the score to 2-1. Earlier in the half, Deikan Bueg had scored the equalizer, setting the stage for Carr’s decisive moment.

The atmosphere was electric as Newark fans cheered their team on, especially after that crucial turnaround. The win not only keeps Newark’s championship hopes alive but allows them to advance to the semifinals, where they will face the second-seeded Brockport Central next week, on October 29, at Gates Chili High School.

Wayne Central finished their season with a record of 12-6, while Newark improved to 16-2 and looks forward to the next challenge in their quest for the title.

Other local sports results included Wayne Central winning against Midlakes in girls volleyball, and Geneva securing a close win in swimming against Midlakes/Red Jacket, illustrating an exciting season for the teams in the area.
