National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Set for October 26 in Columbia, S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Get Ready for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day!

Mark your calendars, folks! This Saturday, October 26, is a significant day for our community here in Columbia. It’s the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, a fantastic opportunity for everyone to clear out their medicine cabinets safely and responsibly. If you’ve got any unused or unwanted medications lying around, you can drop them off at various locations across the city between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Why is This Important?

Every year, thousands of people face serious consequences from improper medication disposal and accidental overdoses. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started this day to encourage the public to safely dispose of medications and raise awareness about the risks associated with keeping unused prescriptions. It’s a great way to protect our loved ones and the environment!

Where Can You Drop Off Your Medications?

In Columbia, several local law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and pharmacy chains like CVS and Walgreens are joining forces to make this event happen. You can find drop-off locations at:

  • Lexington Police Department
  • CVS at 5608 Sunset Boulevard
  • Walgreens at 5220 Sunset Boulevard

All these sites will be open for you from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Just drive on up, and you’ll be greeted by friendly officers ready to assist you!

What to Bring (and What Not to Bring)

It’s important to know that not all items are accepted during this event. While you can safely dispose of tablets and capsules, creams, liquids, and sharp objects won’t be accepted. So, make sure to only bring the solid pills and make this a hassle-free experience!

What Happens to the Medications?

You might be wondering what happens to the drugs you drop off. Well, the medications will be collected and then safely disposed of by professionals, ensuring they don’t end up harming our water supply or land. It’s a crucial step towards keeping our environment clean and safe for future generations!

A Community Effort

Take-Back Day isn’t just an event; it’s here to remind us how collective efforts can lead to substantial changes. By participating, you’re doing your part to ensure that no medicines contribute to accidental poisoning or drug misuse. Plus, it’s a good opportunity to educate family and friends about the importance of proper medication disposal.

Spread the Word!

We encourage everyone to spread the word about this important event. Share this information with your neighbors, friends, and family, so everyone has a chance to take part. It is our responsibility to keep our community safe, and events like this are a step in the right direction!

Join Us This Saturday!

So, don’t forget to gather up those old pills and head out this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Let’s show up as a community, make our homes safer, and participate in this valuable initiative. Together, we can make a difference!

See you at the drop-off locations, Columbia!
