Something big is happening in Columbia’s vibrant Bull Street district! A new housing project named ‘Midtown at BullStreet’ is on the horizon, bringing more than 700 housing units to the area. That’s right; the city is preparing to welcome tons of new neighbors, and they have plans that cater to everyone!
The residential development is all about variety. The project owner, Kevin Connelly, who also leads Connelly Builders and Connelly Development, dove into discussions during a meeting on Monday. Connelly shared that the project aims to create a selection of “attainable housing” options to meet the needs of varying demographics. How great is that?
Just to give you an idea, the total development cost of this ambitious project is an impressive $27,000,323. While some unforeseen delays have popped up, Connelly remains optimistic that the townhomes will be ready by late December 2023, with the apartment units in the larger building slated to finish by late April 2025.
But wait, there’s more! This development isn’t just about brick and mortar; it’s about building a community. When everything is completed, the Midtown development will house over 1,000 residents. That means this will be a buzzing hub of activity!
The project promises to offer a delicious mix of amenities, including:
With all these perks, it’s safe to assume that demand for these units will be incredibly high. As Connelly expressed, “The property will fill up very quickly. Typically, whenever we go to market with a community like this, it’ll lease up in three months.” Wow, that’s quick!
Understanding the pressing need for housing, Connelly highlighted that the development targets a variety of occupants. Apart from affordable rental units, there will also be for-sale townhomes and even senior housing available. It’s about making sure everyone has a place to call home in our growing city.
“There’s a real need for housing in this community, not just any housing, but a variety of types that can meet different needs,” Connelly added passionately. Sounds like a win-win for all!
But that’s not all; the future of the Bull Street district is looking brighter than ever. Plans include the addition of student housing, which will further expand options for residents and contribute to the dynamic character of this developing area.

Columbia is undoubtedly on the rise, and we can’t wait to see how the Bull Street district transforms over the coming years. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
