A Midlands woman has been accused of the theft of two furniture items from a local furniture store, according to Chapin Police. 43-year-old Courtney Bond was seen fleeing the scene in a white Nissan.
The authorities report that on Tuesday, July 2, Bond was observed shoplifting furniture items from the Chapin Furniture store at 660 Columbia Ave. Following the incident, she was seen hastily leaving in a white Nissan. The police were provided with a description of her and the vehicle, along with video footage. This information was subsequently distributed to neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Columbia Police spotted the aforementioned vehicle near Piney Grove Road shortly after the incident. Upon stopping the vehicle, they discovered that it had been reportedly stolen from a gas station earlier that day on N. Main St in Columbia. Bond was promptly detained and handed over to Chapin Police officers.
The suspect was then transported to the Lexington County Jail, where she was charged with Shoplifting of items worth less than $2,000 (Enhancement). Investigators also reveal that Bond had allegedly stolen the vehicle she was caught in earlier that day.
The stolen furniture items were returned to the Chapin Furniture Store. Meanwhile, Columbia Police are proceeding with their investigation related to the stolen vehicle.
