Mid-Missouri High Schools Prepare for Exciting State Football Championship Weekend

In mid-Missouri, exciting times are ahead as two high schools, Blair Oaks and Helias, are gearing up for the state championship games this weekend. Both schools have had impressive seasons and are ready to showcase their talent on the big stage.

Helias will be facing off against the undefeated Platte County in the Class 5 state championship. This marks a significant milestone for Helias, as they aim for their first state title in school history. With a record of 12-1, Helias overcame their only loss, which came in overtime against Rock Bridge in Week 5. Head coach Chris Hentges praised his team’s resilience, stating, “The guys really refocused after that, and we’ve been playing really good football.” Junior quarterback Austin Weaver is particularly excited, noting that his brother was part of the 2020 championship team.

On the other hand, Blair Oaks is set to compete against Seneca for the Class 3 state championship. The Falcons are also riding high with a record of 12-1 and pride themselves on a potent offense that has averaged 51 points per game this season. With an impressive playoff showing, they outscored their opponents 192-20 during the Class 3 tournament. Ted LePage, the Falcons’ head coach, emphasized the importance of five key components essential for success: “It comes down to, the teams that win: stand, start, alignment, assignment and effort.” For senior player Zachariah Bonnett, winning this title would be a dream come true, as both his brothers previously achieved state football championships.

The championship games kick off on Saturday at Faurot Field. Blair Oaks and Seneca will start the day at 11 a.m., while Helias and Platte County will close the day with their matchup at 7 p.m. Both teams are eager for their chance to make history and bring home a championship trophy for their schools.
