Columbia, get ready! On November 6, 2024, renowned gospel singer Melvin Crispell III is bringing his dynamic vocal stylings to the Right Direction Church International Sanctuary. Mark your calendars, as this is a concert you won’t want to miss!
Melvin Crispell III is quickly becoming a household name in the gospel music scene. His recent albums, “I’ve Got A Testimony” (2020) and “No Failure” (2023), helped him snag two Grammy nominations as well as a Dove award win earlier this year. For those who may not know, the Dove Awards are like the Grammys but for spiritual music, celebrating the best in the genre.
One of Crispell’s standout tracks, “Wonderful Is Your Name”, has streamed over 2 million times, which only adds to his rising star. Given his popularity, you might think he would opt for a large concert hall, but that’s not his style. Crispell is on a mission to connect with his roots, and that’s why he’ll be performing at a local church.
“My foundation is singing at different churches,” Crispell shared. “So these events mean a lot to me. And everybody needs Jesus, so it’s not just about the stages or theaters.” His deep love for gospel is evident, and he genuinely enjoys taking the time to visit local churches and share his story with the community.
What’s special about Crispell’s performances is that they often take an unexpected turn. “I do try to plan for what I’m going to say or sing, but the leading of the Holy Spirit is subject to change,” he explained. “So, I just want to present an authentic gospel experience in every room I enter.”
Adding to the excitement, Crispell is also releasing a new EP titled “Covered Vol. 1”. This six-track collection features fresh takes on classic gospel songs, including favorites like “He’s Never Failed Me Yet” by CeCe Winans and “The Battle Is The Lord’s” by Yolanda Adams. Crispell’s unique vocal style blends lightness and passion that truly captures the essence of gospel music.
Choosing just six songs was no easy feat for Crispell. “It was almost impossible,” he chuckled. “That’s why I wanted it to be ‘Vol. 1’; there are so many songs that inspired me growing up. I can’t wait until we dive into ‘Vol. 2.’”
For Crispell, every performance is more than just music — it’s a spiritual experience. “Really, it’s an audience of one, and that’s Jesus,” he stated. “The connection I have with the audience is me inviting them into my personal space of worship.” His aim is to invoke the presence of God and lead people on an emotional and spiritual journey.
This is exactly what occurred at the Dove Awards earlier this year when he won Traditional Gospel Album of the Year for “No Failure.” “That night was absolutely incredible,” he recalled, expressing deep gratitude for the recognition of his hard work.
With a heart full of passion for music and a commitment to uplifting spirits, Crispell is dedicated to forging deeper connections with his audience. “We as artists and musicians need to inspire people and invite those who may not know Jesus into that space,” he said. “You never know what someone’s personal experience with Christ will lead to.”
Melvin Crispell III’s performance in Columbia is set for 7 p.m. on November 6 at the Right Direction Church International Sanctuary, part of a four-day Direction Conference. It promises to be a wonderful evening filled with uplifting music and heartfelt worship. Don’t miss this chance to witness a powerful performance and connect with the spirit of gospel!
