WEST COLUMBIA, SC – Emmylou Todd, a seasoned education professional with nearly 20 years of service in the Lexington School District Two, was recently promoted to the district’s new director of special services for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Todd’s appointment, recommended by the Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner, received the approval from the Board of Trustees during a special-called meeting held on May 7.
Todd’s journey with Lexington Two began in 2006 when she started her profession as a special education teacher at Fulmer Middle School. Her dedication and commitment saw her progress through several roles including an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) coordinator and transition specialist and as a district special education coach. In 2017, she transferred into her former role of coordinator of special services (secondary), a position she has held since then.
Possessing both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, Todd is also currently working on a PhD. Her personality is one filled with an undying commitment to special education and a firm belief in the potential of her students.
“I am committed to focusing on the strengths of our students with disabilities as well as ensuring that we are providing a quality education from empowered special education and general education teachers,” Todd said.
She further highlighted that her goal is to “ensure that ALL students have the opportunity to learn and grow as well as reach their full potential for becoming productive citizens after leaving our district.” Her tenure as the new director of special services will commence on July 1.
This transition signifies Lexington School District Two’s ongoing commitment to special education. It places emphasis on strengthening the quality of education provided to students with disabilities. It also underscores the district’s dedication to fostering learning environments where all students, irrespective of their respective abilities, have equal opportunities to grow and reach their full potential.
Todd’s promotion is not just an individual accomplishment but also a triumph for the whole district, signaling the upward mobility possible within. It is indeed a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and resilience throughout her years of service in Lexington Two.
