Lexington Celebrates New Leadership at The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment and Exciting Future Projects

Lexington Welcomes New Leadership at The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment

In a heartwarming turn of events, the city of Lexington is buzzing with excitement as The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment has announced its new executive director, Jessica Hudson, BCBA. Known for her extensive experience and vibrant community spirit, Hudson is set to take the reins as the organization aims to widen its reach and enhance its services for individuals with autism.

A Local Star Returns Home

Jessica Hudson isn’t just any professional in the field; she’s a native of Lexington with over 16 years under her belt in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Having honed her skills as the Director of Clinical Operations for the Autism Center of Excellence in the thriving Raleigh-Durham area, she’s an enthusiastic advocate for the autism community and brings a wealth of knowledge back to her home turf. “The Unumb Center is renowned nationally and globally for its impact in the autism community,” Hudson shared, teeming with enthusiasm. “It’s an honor to lead this organization as we expand our mission to serve individuals across all stages of life.”

Building on a Strong Legacy

The Unumb Center, founded in 2010, has transformed from a single program, known as the Autism Academy of South Carolina, into a comprehensive institution that offers vital services to the autism community. With Hudson at the helm, the center is in great hands as it looks to build on the solid foundation laid by previous director Lorri Unumb and her dedicated team. “We are delighted to welcome Jessica back to the Midlands to lead The Unumb Center during this exciting period of growth,” said Lorri, who is not just the founder but also the Board Chair of the center.

The Next Big Step: Unumb Place

But that’s not all—there’s a big project on the horizon! The Unumb Center has identified that there is, unfortunately, a growing need for long-term care services for adults with autism. To fulfill this need, they’ve purchased an impressive 10-acre property in Lexington. This new location, aptly dubbed Unumb Place, will be home to adult programs and provide a unique residential setting featuring six on-site homes. Currently, renovations are underway with plans to welcome the first residents by the spring of 2025.

“Unumb Place represents a significant milestone for our organization,” Lorri emphasized, beaming with joy and hope. “We’re creating a community where individuals with autism can thrive throughout their lives, supported by tailored programs and compassionate care.” The initiatives planned for this new facility promise to provide invaluable resources and camaraderie for adults in need.
