Hey there, Lexington folks! Have you ever wondered what makes our town truly special? Well, it seems like the officials are on the same page, and they’re about to dive deep into what makes Lexington tick. With a blossoming population of nearly 25,000, our little slice of South Carolina is thriving like never before, and it’s time we tell our unique story to the world!
Jack Stuart, the town’s economic developer, recently shared some exciting news. “We have a logo, but we’re lacking the story behind it,” he said. It’s true! While many residents have noticed the changes downtown and the influx of new neighbors, our branding hasn’t kept pace with these developments. With the charm of small-town living and a vibrant community on the rise, it’s the perfect time to re-evaluate who we are and how we present ourselves.
To kick things off, Lexington is gearing up to hire a branding and marketing firm. This isn’t just a cosmetic change; it’s a chance to create a strong, heartfelt narrative that resonates with both residents and visitors alike. The firm will conduct community meetings and focus groups to uncover the essence of our town. “The goal is to not just revamp our logo but to craft a narrative around our identity,” Stuart explained. Because let’s face it, most people find it hard to define what Lexington truly feels like.
Stuart emphasizes that a well-defined brand could have ripple effects for our entire community. It could help draw in new businesses and entice tourists to come and see what we’re all about. “Right now, we don’t have a catchy phrase,” he noted. In contrast, nearby towns like West Columbia have “Head West,” and Columbia used to rock with “Famously Hot.” So, why shouldn’t Lexington showcase its unique flair?
Another exciting point Stuart touched on was the absence of a signature event in town. Many towns around us boast popular gatherings. For instance, there’s the Irmo Okra Strut and Pelion’s Peanut Party. Lexington is looking to create something that could unify residents and showcase all that we’ve got to offer. A new event could gather folks together and offer a fun representation of our community spirit—and we all know how much we love a good party!
Great news, everyone! The project will be funded by a generous $25,000 grant from the S.C. Municipal Association’s Home Town Economic Development program, along with a 10% local match from our town. As the branding initiative unfolds, additional funding options may also be explored based on what needs arise.
Lexington has already spent around $100,000 on rebranding initiatives since rolling out its current logo in 2005, which included removing an old town seal that featured a Confederate flag. Town officials have made adjustments over the years, such as repainting the water towers and updating police badges. However, it seems the end result will be much more than just a new logo—it’s about reinforcing the identity, roots, and aspirations of who we are today.
Stuart summed it up brilliantly, saying, “We’re more than a palmetto and a crescent. There’s a story to be told!” And isn’t that what we’re all eager to share? As Lexington embarks on this exciting branding journey, it’s a wonderful opportunity for all of us to reflect on what makes our town feel like home. Here’s to a bright future, Lexington, where we live, work, play, and worship together with pride!
