Lexington County, SC 09/09/2024 – In a small yet bustling corner of our community, something took place that’s got everyone talking. A typical day at the Wal-Mart on Sunset Boulevard turned into an unexpected situation when surveillance cameras captured a man behaving suspiciously. And now, local detectives are hoping you might hold the key to catching him!
It all went down on August 18, 2024. As shoppers leisurely roamed the aisles, doing their weekend shopping, someone wasn’t quite as innocent. Our newly dubbed “master thief” apparently decided that keeping his hands to himself was too dull. According to reports, he lifted a cell phone right out of another customer’s bag, all while they were focused on their own purchases.
Thanks to Wal-Mart’s vigilant surveillance system, this theft didn’t go unnoticed. The store’s “eye in the sky” zoomed in on the suspect as he went about his sneaky business. His removal of the phone from the cart was caught in stunning detail. And trust us, detectives have plenty of footage to work with!
Here’s what we know about the man: he has a striking tattoo on his left forearm, making him a bit easier to spot. When last seen, this fellow was dressed casually in black shorts, sports shoes, and a white T-shirt. He appeared to be carrying a pair of glasses in his left hand; they might be prescription, but it’s tough to say. He’s got a bald head and a noticeable goatee that adds to his distinct appearance.
When he made his getaway, he hopped into a white single cab GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck that sported after-market rims and shiny chrome bars on the sides of the tailgate. Quite the flashy ride for someone with such sticky fingers!
The Lexington Police are eager to wrap up this case and bring this man into the spotlight where he belongs. If you recognize this individual or have any helpful information, they’d love to hear from you! You can reach out to Detective Tomaino either by phone at 803-359-6260 or via email at mtomaino@lexsc.gov. If you prefer to stay anonymous, there’s always the option to connect with Midlands Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
As a little incentive, if your tip leads to an arrest, you might even be eligible for a cash reward. It’s like being a local hero while also giving a friendly nod to community safety.
In places like Cayce, West Columbia, and the surrounding towns, incidents like this highlight the importance of community vigilance. We all have a role to play in keeping our neighborhoods safe. While we may not be able to watch every aisle or parking lot, we can surely keep an eye out for each other.
So as you go about your daily routines, whether you’re in Pine Ridge, Gilbert, or near serene Lake Murray, remember to keep your belongings close and watch for anything that seems out of place. Together, we can ensure that our community remains a safe haven for all who call it home!
Keep an eye on local news and updates from the police about this case and others in our area. Your support and involvement can make a big difference in maintaining the peace and safety we cherish in Lexington County.
