Adopt a Furry Friend in Lexington County

Hey there, Lexington County! If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, you’re in luck. This week, Lexington County Animal Services has introduced their Pet of the Week, a sweet pup named Johnny Boy!

Johnny Boy is a playful one-and-a-half-year-old dog who plays well with other dogs. He is already neutered and is eagerly waiting for a loving home to call his own. He’s ready to be your forever buddy and promises to bring lots of joy to your life. If you want to learn more about how to adopt Johnny Boy, you can get all the details online. He is just waiting for someone to come and take him home!

Don’t Forget About Atlas and Butch!

While Johnny Boy is making waves, he’s not the only pet looking for a family. Pawmetto Lifeline is showcasing a wonderful three-legged dog named Atlas. At just one year old, this American Staffordshire mix gets along fabulously with cats, making him a unique addition to any family. Give Atlas a second glance; he’s a special boy that deserves a loving home!

Then there’s Butch from Columbia Animal Services. This three-year-old boy is neutered and vaccinated, and guess what? All adoption fees for heartworm-positive pets are waived this month! It’s a great time to bring home a new friend like Butch.

Meet Jax and Magenta!

Heading over to the Kershaw County Humane Society, we have a mixed breed dog named Jax. Jax is only one year old, housebroken, and good with other animals. He’s ready to join any family that has room in their hearts! Meanwhile, Columbia Animal Services is introducing Magenta, a spayed dog who is house-trained. For the month, her adoption fee is only $1 – what a steal!

Freddy and Gladys Are Also Waiting!

Lexington County Animal Services is also featuring a dog named Freddy, who is just nine months old and super friendly. His adoption fee is only $40. And let’s not forget about Gladys from Kershaw County, who at eight years old is the wise elder in the group. She gets along well with people and other dogs but prefers to steer clear of cats. She’s a loyal companion looking for a gentle hand!

Community Support Needed

The Lexington County animal shelter is currently facing significant overpopulation problems. The facility can hold around 128 animals, but often takes in over 400. The troubling euthanasia rates echo the urgent need for community support to tackle this issue. In some months, up to 40% of the animals are facing termination due to lack of space and resources.

Making Changes for the Better

In response to these challenges, Lexington County has put in place breeding restrictions and microchip requirements to help manage the situation better. Ongoing renovations costing around $69,000 aim to improve sanitation and safety at the shelter. There’s also a push to recruit more volunteers and foster families to help spread love and awareness in the community.

Engaging the community is crucial in spreading the word and encouraging adoptions. So, if you’re thinking about adding a pet to your family, now is the time! Whether it’s Johnny Boy, Atlas, Butch, Jax, Freddy, Magenta, or Gladys, each pet is bursting with love and ready to become your next best friend!

Take a moment, share the word, and consider adopting one of these lovely companions. They’re waiting for you!
