Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and the lone remaining challenger to former president Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination, was left without the backing of the county’s Republican Party. The local GOP voted to endorse Donald Trump over Haley, just five days before the state’s Republican presidential primary scheduled for February 24.
Mark Weber, the county party Chair, stated in a release, “The Republicans of Lexington County made it clear that they support President Trump in the First in the South Primary and wanted to make their voices heard. Our party and our committees are taking a proactive stance in tackling the issues of today, and they decided that we must coalesce behind Donald J. Trump to end the destruction of the Biden administration as soon as possible.”
He added, “The Lexington County Republican Party looks forward to having continued influence of our conservative values moving forward — whether it be in the primary process, or through policy advocacy. We are excited to take the bold step of endorsing a candidate for president.”
