On a sunny Sunday afternoon in Lexington County, a routine drive turned into a heartbreaking scene. Around 4:40 p.m., a serious two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of SC 6 and Martin Neese Road, leaving the community in shock.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the unfortunate incident involved a Nissan SUV heading east on SC 6 and a Dodge Van that was traveling north on Martin Neese Road. The two vehicles collided at the intersection, resulting in a tragic outcome.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 68-year-old Marion P. Glymph, a resident of Lexington. Witnesses at the scene described the moment of the crash as harrowing, with the sounds of metal colliding echoing through the otherwise quiet afternoon.
Several drivers who were waiting at the traffic light recalled hearing a loud noise and then seeing debris scattered across the intersection. One witness mentioned, “It was all so sudden. I didn’t see what led up to it, but the impact was deafening.”
Both the driver and passenger of the Nissan SUV were transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening, but they would have a long road to recovery ahead of them.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the accident. Authorities have not yet released any further details regarding the cause of the collision. The driver of the Dodge Van is cooperating fully with the investigation, and no charges have been reported yet.
The news of Marion Glymph’s passing has sent ripples of sadness through the local community. Friends and neighbors fondly remember Glymph as a vibrant person who always had a kind word to say and a smile on his face. Many expressed their heartbreak over the loss, stating that he would be greatly missed.
“It feels unreal,” one neighbor shared. “Marion would always help us with our lawn or check in to see how we were doing. He was a great guy.” As folks gathered in small groups discussing the recent accident, the sense of community was palpable, united in grief and remembrance.
This unfortunate event has sparked conversations about road safety in the area. Local residents are emphasizing the need for increased awareness at this intersection, which they feel could benefit from clearer signage and perhaps even traffic lights.
