New Safety Measures at Lake Murray Public Park Commence

Additional Precautions for Safe & Enjoyable Visitation

Lexington County, S.C. – In the interest of visitor safety amid growing public concerns, Dominion Energy has inaugurated additional safety provisions for visitors at Lake Murray Public Park, applicable from June 8 onwards. Citing issues with the vast number of visitors and related traffic congestion, these safety protocols will be applied to ensure enjoyable park experiences while placing priority on public security.

Pedestrian Access No Longer Allowed on Lexington Side Recreation Area

As part of the new precautions, pedestrian access will henceforth be restricted at the Lexington side recreation area. Visitors will be required to enter the park in their vehicles during the prescribed operating hours of 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. during the weekend.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, and we thank everyone for their patience. We want everyone to be able to enjoy our parks, but the amount of visitors and heavy traffic congestion are causing public safety concerns. Safety must remain our top priority.”, declared Billy Chastain, manager of lake management for Dominion Energy South Carolina.

No More Waiting For Parking Spaces Outside Gate

The park authority also announced that if the parking lot is filled to maximum capacity, no additional visitors will gain admittance to the park. Such measures are being implemented to prevent visitors from waiting for a parking space outside the gated areas or on North Lake Drive, actions that have been identified as contributing factors to burgeoning traffic congestion.

Parking, Traffic Management, and Operating Hours

The consequential escalation in visitor numbers, specially during peak hours and weekends, along with conjoined traffic issues, have necessitated the introduction of these new safety measures. The park authority hopes to ensure safe and pleasant experiences for all park-goers with these implementations.

Protocols in Effect till Season’s Closure

These changes in visitor rules and regulations are not temporary, but will continue until the park officially closes for the season following Labor Day, September 2. The park authority confirms that their effort in prioritizing safety may necessitate adjustments, but the overall aim of providing an enjoyable and secure recreational environment for visitors will remain the ultimate goal.

As these new safety policies beckon a change to accustomed routines, visitors are encouraged to stay updated and informed to ensure a hassle-free visitation experience to Lake Murray Park. As always, the welfare and pleasurable experience of each park-goer remain at the core of the park’s service.
