Richland County School District One announced a shift in leadership at Forest Heights Elementary School, Columbia, South Carolina. Long-time educator and administrator, John Greene has accepted the principal position, filling the void left by the untimely demise of former Principal Jason Koepke.
Jason Koepke, 41, was a dedicated educator and leader, serving as the principal for three years before his unexpected death in a car accident last month. His death is a tragic loss for the Richland County School District One and the Forest Heights Elementary School community.
John Greene, a devoted educator, and experienced administrator, was formerly the assistant principal at Bradley Elementary School. On Tuesday evening, he posted “Ready to serve!” on X, a social networking site previously known as Twitter. Greene’s vast experience in the education sector extends his service as a K-3 teacher, a math and reading interventionist as well as an in-school suspension supervisor. His dedication to education and commitment to uplifting students are prime qualifications for his new role.
Parents have an opportunity to get acquainted with Greene and his vision for the school on July 29 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria/auditorium.
A statement from Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon noted, “Our new principals are excited and ready to welcome students back to school. While they are new to their assigned positions for the 2024-2025 school year, they are all outstanding veteran educators. We look forward to the experience, leadership, and enthusiasm that they will bring to their schools.”
It is a sentiment echoed by many in the district, who believe in Greene’s capabilities and leadership acumen to guide Forest Heights Elementary School through this transition phase into an era of renewed academic excellence.
The broader Richland County School District One community extends their full support to Greene as he assumes this new role, continuing the legacy of excellent leadership at Forest Heights Elementary School.
