In Cincinnati, the action heated up this week as high school sports teams took to the field and the greens in some exciting matchups.
During the OHSAA Division II state tournament, seven teams showcased their golfing talents. Alter claimed the top spot with a score of 598, followed closely by Ottawa Hills with 624. Other notable finishes included Northwestern in third at 653 and Chagrin Falls fourth with 654. Notable individual performances came from two golfers, Finley Bartlett from Wyoming and Matthew Kreusch from Alter, who tied for first with exceptional scores of 140 each.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ tournament, Columbus Academy stood out with their impressive total of 668, defeating Madeira who finished with 695. Eva Lim from Columbus Academy topped the individual leaderboard with an impressive score of 143.
In soccer action at the KHSAA 8th Region quarterfinals, Woodford County triumphed over Grant County with a final score of 6-0. In a nail-biter, Collins advanced by defeating Simon Kenton 2-1 in penalties after a tie. Walton-Verona also moved ahead, clinching a 2-1 victory against Spencer County.
Moving on to the KHSAA 9th Region quarterfinals, Notre Dame delivered a dominant performance, winning 6-0 against St. Henry. Highlands edged out Cooper with a narrow 1-0 win, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
In another match, Conner showcased their skills by defeating Newport Central Catholic 7-0, solidifying their strong season record of 21-2-1.
In volleyball, Villa Madonna asserted their dominance against Dixie with a decisive win of 3-0, further showcasing their ability on the court.
As the playoffs continue, teams are sure to bring the heat, with more exciting matches on the horizon.
