Glastonbury and Seymour Shine in High School Sports Matches

In Glastonbury, the local girls’ soccer team showcased an impressive performance on Friday during the CLASS L first round, defeating Hamden with a score of 6-1. This victory marked a strong start to their playoff journey. Addison Infante led the scoring for Glastonbury with an outstanding three goals. Other contributors included Samantha Kohlun, Zoe White, and Deirdre McKiernan, each adding one goal. For Hamden, Lexy Patel managed to score the lone goal in their attempt to mount a comeback.

The game highlighted Glastonbury’s strong teamwork, with Deirdre McKiernan also providing two assists alongside Addison Infante who added one more, while Annelise Manzotti chipped in another assist. In goal, Maddie O’Connell made three saves, contributing to her team’s solid defense. This brings Glastonbury’s record to 16-1, whereas Hamden’s record stands at 11-6.

Meanwhile, in the CLASS M second round, the Seymour volleyball team dominated Wilcox Tech with a decisive win, taking all three sets with scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-4. Highlighting the match, Ana Overkamp was a standout with six kills, while Kenzie O’Hayre led defensively with eight digs. Additionally, Ryan Sadick contributed to the team’s strong performance with nine kills, further solidifying Seymour’s strong position in the tournament.

In other action from the CLASS S second round, Innovation secured a hard-fought victory against Coginchaug, winning in five sets with scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, and 25-21, followed by a thrilling 15-10 finish in the final set. Key players for Innovation included Patrina McHugh, who recorded 10 digs, Madison Ramos with 11 digs, Phoebe Candy who contributed eight kills, and Sezja Jacobs who made a significant impact with three blocks.

These matches highlight the excitement of high school sports as teams continue to compete for glory in the playoffs.
