High School Sports Roundup from Connecticut

This past Friday brought exciting moments in local high school sports as teams took to the field and the court for thrilling competitions across various games.

Soccer Highlights

In boys’ soccer, Abbott Tech delivered a solid performance against Bullard Havens, winning with a score of 5-0. Key players included Danny Granizo with two goals, while Henrique Candido, John Jaigua, and Dennis Palacios each added a goal. The standout goalie for Abbott Tech was Arnold Urvina, who made four saves.

In a closely contested match, Canton edged out Windsor Locks with a score of 4-2. Brad Balgach shined for Canton, scoring three goals. Meanwhile, Gavin Souza and Vincent Latorra managed to find the net for Windsor Locks.

Another notable match was between EO Smith and East Catholic. EO Smith dominated with a 4-0 victory, highlighted by Yeshua LaBoy, who had a goal and two assists. An own goal from East Catholic capped the day for them.

Field Hockey Showdowns

In girls’ field hockey, an exciting matchup saw Suffield triump over Coventry with a score of 4-0. The goals for Suffield came from Hazel Qua, who scored twice, alongside contributions from Olivia Matthews and Sammie Motta.

Meanwhile, in a tightly contested game, Stonington defeated Woodstock Academy with a commanding score of 7-0, showcasing their offensive strength.

Swimming Milestones

In the pool, Foran took an impressive win against Hamden with scores reaching 96 to 89. Notable performances included Anna Piskura winning the 50 freestyle and diving champion Lalana Carroll.
