Akintunde Warnock, a seasoned touring comedian and Eunissa’s husband, launched the initiative as a way to encourage African American men to get prostate exams. To sweeten the deal, anyone who got screened received a four-pack of tickets to Warnock’s comedy show. And guess what? Those tickets flew off the shelves in no time! With the overwhelming support, the event’s popularity grew, and Eunissa was inspired to rejuvenate the event in Columbia.
Her motivation hit home when she faced a health scare of her own a few years back when she was diagnosed with blood clots in her legs caused by stress. “That really shook me, as you could imagine,” she reflects. “Stress management is so important, and that’s one of our No. 1 things we want to focus on for Healthy Laughter.” It’s clear that this event isn’t just about fun but about real, tangible health discussions that can make a difference.
