Hey there, Greenwood! If you’re wondering how to spend your time in the upcoming weeks, look no further. There’s a delightful array of events happening right here in town and in the neighboring areas, so grab your calendars and get ready to mark some dates!
First off, let’s talk about the weather! Cloudy skies are in store, with a high of around 55°F and a chilly low of 38°F. Don’t forget your jackets as the winds will be blowing from the northeast at about 10 to 15 mph!
This month is packed with fantastic activities to get involved in. The Greenwood Performing Arts are rescheduling the much-anticipated event, “A Toast and a Taste to Greenwood,” originally set for an unspecified date. When it happens, you can expect to highlight three local chefs and enjoy music from several talented musicians along with a selection of beverages. Tickets are priced at $30, with food and beverage samples available separately. Keep an eye on greenwoodperformingarts.org for the new date announcement and ticket availability!
If you fancy art, don’t miss the Faculty and Alumni Art Exhibit currently on display at the Lander University Art Gallery. The exhibition runs through February 17, 2025, and features stunning works from both faculty and alumni. If you have questions or want to know more, simply call 864-388-8810!
Let’s not forget the music! The Greenwood Community Theatre is putting on “Bright Star” this Sunday. This beautiful show, inspired by a true story, comes complete with a Tony-nominated score by the wonderful duo of Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. For tickets, call 864-229-5704!
And if you’re in the mood for something a little broader, head over to the Peace Center in Greenville for the blockbuster musical, “Hamilton,” running until February 16, 2025. Be sure to check out peacecenter.org for all the details!
The Collage Dance Collective will take to the stage at Newberry Opera House this Sunday at 6 p.m., perfect for a cultural outing. Tickets are available at the NOH Box Office at 803-276-6264. And if you’re a fan of big band music, don’t miss the legendary Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra performing here on February 13 at 3 p.m.! The tickets are waiting for you over at the same box office.
Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, and there’s no shortage of celebrations! Enjoy Cupid’s Night Out at Newberry Opera House on February 14 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available via the NOH Box Office, followed by a musical performance by Liquid Pleasure later that evening at 8 p.m. If you’re looking for something extra special, Sean of the South will be performing there on February 15 at 8 p.m., so be sure to grab your tickets!
This month is not just about music and art. The Greenwood Film Society is hosting a free screening of the classic 1948 film “Rope” by Alfred Hitchcock at Good Times Brewing in Greenwood on February 18 at 7 p.m. A great way to enjoy a film under the stars!
New exhibits are also on display, such as the George Washington’s Birthday Party at The Museum of Greenwood on February 22, filled with delightful activities for the kids. There’s even a Student Juried Exhibit at Lander University running from February 24 to March 19, plus a public reception on February 27!
As we close out February and leap into March, keep your calendars open for more delightful happenings, including the “Black Violin” performance at Newberry Opera House on March 1 and “Our Planet Live: Frozen Worlds” at the Peace Center on April 1.
And if you’re feeling a bit musical on Tuesday nights, don’t forget the free bluegrass jams at The Fiddle and Bow Music Hall in Honea Path starting at 6 p.m.
