The University of South Carolina softball team defeated USC Upstate 5-0, improving their record to 33-18 with a strong performance against the Spartans, who fell to 26-12.
Carolina’s power was on display with three of their four hits resulting in extra bases, including a home run and a double. Riley Blampied’s solo home run in the third inning added to the excitement.
Pitcher Alana Vawter (15-10) was stellar, allowing only two hits in four innings. Jori Heard pitched the final three innings to secure the shutout.
The Gamecocks took an early lead with a leadoff single by Jen Cummings and a double from Aniyah Black. Zoe Laneaux’s fifth-inning home run extended the lead.
South Carolina will now prepare for their series against No. 13 Missouri, starting Friday at 6 p.m. The Gamecocks aim to carry their momentum into the final SEC series of the season.
