EUGENE, Ore. Gamecock Women Finish 15th at NCAA Outdoor Championship

South Carolina Women’s Track & Field concluded the final day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Saturday afternoon at historic Hayward Field. The Gamecocks came away with 10 First Team All-American honors and scored 22 points in three events to jump into 15th on the team leaderboard. The 15th place is the best finish at the national championship meet since 2019 when Carolina finished 10th.

Impressive Performances

The afternoon started with the women’s 4x100m relay finishing as bronze medalists following a time of 42.63. The quartet of Jayla Jamison, Cynteria James, Zaya Akins, and JaMeesia Ford became the first Gamecock 4x100m squad to score on the women’s side since 2009, securing six points for the Garnet & Black.

Ford and Jamison continued to shine in the 200m finals, with Ford running a new program record time of 22.08 (1.0) to finish runner-up, and Jamison running a new personal best at 22.26 (1.0) to finish fourth overall. This dynamic duo scored a combined 13 points for the Gamecocks, marking a significant achievement for the team.

The meet was capped off by a program record in the 4x400m relay as Akins, Sylvia Chelangat, Jamison, and Ford ran 3:24.86 to finish sixth overall and earn three more points for Carolina. Each member of the quartet earned First Team All-American honors.
