NEWBERRY – As the community of Newberry begins its journey of recovery following the challenges posed by Hurricane Helene, there’s some great news for residents. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has just announced that assistance is now available for those who’ve experienced losses. If you live in Newberry County and have faced difficulties because of the hurricane, get ready to take action!
On Monday, October 7, 2024, a specially trained Disaster Survivor Assistance Team will be in Newberry to help residents navigate the process. They will set up shop at the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Drill Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This will be a walk-in only event, so feel free to drop by and ask any questions you may have about the assistance available.
It’s important to note, though, that while the DSA team will be there to provide guidance and answer all your questions, they won’t be able to upload documents or process payments for Individual Assistance. They will focus on helping you with the registration process, ensuring you know exactly what steps to take to secure the help you need.
No question is too small, and every concern is valid. Emergency Management Director Tommy Long expressed gratitude to FEMA for their assistance. “We have received a lot of questions about applying and what they need to do to get assistance. The Disaster Survivor Assistance Team is providing a huge asset to Newberry County residents,” Long said. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to get detailed guidance tailored to your situation.
If you have any questions before the event, feel free to reach out for more information. The local Emergency Management office can be contacted at 803-276-0625. Their office is located at 1216 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108. They’re here to help you understand the steps needed for recovery.
Recovery after a disaster like Hurricane Helene can feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. There is support and assistance available, and taking the first step towards recovery is crucial. Make sure to take advantage of the resources available to ensure you and your family can recover as smoothly as possible.
Whether you choose to visit the DSA team on October 7 or apply online, remember that help is out there, and it’s time to get started on your path toward recovery. Together, the community of Newberry is strong, and we’ll come through this challenge united and resilient!
