Newberry, SC – The recovery journey for residents of Newberry County affected by Hurricane Helene is taking a significant step forward, as residents are now eligible for assistance from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). This means people can get the help they need to start rebuilding their lives after the storm.
For those who experienced losses due to the hurricane, it’s simple to start the application process. Residents can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or they can call the toll-free number 1-800-621-3362. There’s also a handy FEMA App that can be downloaded for those who prefer to apply from their smartphones.
It’s important to act quickly as assistance could make a real difference in recovery efforts. So don’t wait too long to get your applications in!
If residents need hands-on help with the registration process, there’s some good news! A Disaster Survivor Assistance Team will be in Newberry County on Monday, October 7, 2024. This team will be stationed at the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Drill Hall from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.. It’s a walk-in service, so feel free to stop by and speak with someone who can provide guidance.
While the Disaster Survivor Assistance Team will not be able to upload documents on behalf of residents or make payments for Individual Assistance, they will be there to answer questions and help residents complete their applications for aid. They are there to help navigate through the often tricky process of disaster relief.
The local Emergency Management Director, Tommy Long, expressed gratitude for the assistance offered by FEMA. “We have received a lot of questions about applying and what they need to do to get assistance. The Disaster Survivor Assistance Team is providing a huge asset to Newberry County residents,” Long stated. This dedicated effort from FEMA is a much-needed resource in these challenging times.
If you have more questions or need further information, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can call the local emergency management office at 803-276-0625. They’re ready to assist residents during this recovery period, so take advantage of the resources available to you.
As Newberry County works through the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, it’s so important for residents to understand their options for assistance. Whether you prefer applying online, dialing a phone number, or seeking in-person help, there are multiple paths available to support you in this recovery process.
Don’t forget, the Disaster Survivor Assistance Team is coming to town soon, so mark your calendars for October 7. Let’s come together as a community and help one another rebuild stronger than ever!
