In Albany, excitement was in the air as local high school athletes showcased their talent in various sports last week. The football field saw some incredible performances, especially from Archie Jones of CBA. The junior quarterback had a stunning game, throwing for 191 yards and an impressive six touchdowns in just the first half, leading his team to a dominant 75-0 victory over Schenectady.
Meanwhile, Cam Grasso from Niskayuna contributed to his team’s 21-7 win against Guilderland with two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s John Gload was a standout as well, rushing for 169 yards and scoring two touchdowns in a nail-biting 22-21 victory over Queensbury.
Queensbury’s Zavry Ward had a commendable performance despite the loss, throwing for 251 yards with two touchdowns, and also scoring on a reception to finish with 78 yards rushing.
On the soccer fields, the action was just as thrilling. Jackson Eberz from Guilderland scored an early goal in his team’s 1-0 win against Shaker. Kofi Sarfoh led Shaker to victory against Shenendehowa, scoring three goals in a 4-1 match. Cody Hamilton from Columbia managed to find the net three times in an 8-0 blowout against Colonie.
In other soccer matches, Godfred Basigi of Mohonasen was unstoppable, scoring two goals in a 3-1 win against Troy and adding a remarkable two goals and three assists in a 6-0 victory against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. The weekend also saw Laina Frasier from Broadalbin-Perth win the Class C race at the Grout Run.
