Excitement Builds for the 2024 South Carolina State Fair in Columbia

Columbia, S.C. — The air is buzzing with excitement in Columbia as the 2024 South Carolina State Fair is just around the corner! Opening its gates on Wednesday, this beloved festival is set to welcome thousands of eager visitors. From thrilling rides to mouth-watering food, there’s something for everyone at this year’s fair.

Behind the Scenes Preparations

General Manager Nancy Smith shared that planning for the fair isn’t a last-minute gig. “We really work on this all year,” she said, emphasizing the dedication that goes into pulling off such a grand event. Vendors and staff have been busy making last-minute adjustments, ensuring every ride is checked and every food stall is ready to serve up delicious treats.

A Taste of Something New

One of the most anticipated highlights this year is the debut of Deep Fried Tacos. Owner James Staub has been working tirelessly to get everything just right. “We had a couple of days of driving back and forth with some equipment, showed up here full force since Friday,” Staub explained. As the finishing touches are applied, he is setting up computers and iPads within their stall to ensure a seamless experience for all fairgoers. Who can resist the tantalizing possibility of deep fried tacos?

Improved Entry and Exit

In response to previous years’ crowd flow issues, this year’s fairgoers will notice a new traffic pattern designed to streamline entry and exit times. New entrances and exits at the fairgrounds promise to make the journey in and out smoother. “We’ve added entrances and exits to our main gates,” Smith noted, highlighting the new gates at Gates 6 and 10, plus an exciting new entry gate on George Rogers Boulevard. “Gate 8 will now serve as an additional exit gate,” she added.

Enhanced Safety Measures

Your safety is a top priority this year. The fair has implemented several new security measures, including walk-through metal detectors, increased lighting, and additional cameras throughout the grounds. Plus, a clear bag policy is now in effect, allowing for a more organized and safer entry process.

New Youth Admission Policy

Parents should take note of the updated youth admission policy. Originally enforced only from Sunday through Thursday after 5 p.m., the requirement for visitors under 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 21 or older will now be in effect all day on Fridays and Saturdays. This is an important step to keep everyone safe while ensuring that the fair remains a fun environment for families.

Cultural Tribute and Themes

This year’s theme, “46 Reasons to Celebrate SC”, showcases the diversity and charm of all 46 counties across the state. With exciting exhibits and displays, fairgoers can dive deep into the heritage and culture that makes South Carolina such an amazing place to live and visit.

Mark Your Calendars!

The South Carolina State Fair runs from October 9 to October 20 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia. So gather your friends and family, and get ready for a fun-filled time at this year’s fair! There are rides, games, entertainment, and of course, a variety of food that is simply not to be missed. Let’s make this fair a memorable experience for all!
