Last night in Des Moines, the quarterfinals of Iowa high school football produced thrilling matches as teams fought hard for a chance to compete at the UNI-Dome in the state semifinals. Four teams from each class secured their spots, setting the stage for an exciting postseason.

In Class 5A, the Tigers triumphed over Johnston with a narrow victory of 38-35. As the clock wound down, Johnston was pushing for a comeback, but the Tigers held on to secure their place in the semifinals. They will be joined by Valley, Dowling, Southeast Polk, and Iowa City Liberty. Just moments before, Lewis Central pulled off an incredible finish against ADM, scoring a touchdown with under 30 seconds to play, finalizing the score at 30-25.

Wilton made headlines too, scoring a late touchdown alongside a two-point conversion to defeat Regina 21-14, thus heading to the UNI-Dome for the first time in the school’s history. It’s a remarkable achievement for the Lightning!

In a dominant performance, Southeast Polk rolled past Iowa City West, emerging victorious with a score of 42-15. The Rams have proved they are serious contenders as they chase their fourth consecutive state title.

The competition was intense in other matches too. Dowling edged out Ankeny Centennial 14-10, while Pella fell to Gilbert by a close 19-14 score. Each game showed the passion and determination of these young athletes.

The excitement of high school football playoffs continues as fans eagerly await the upcoming semifinals. With teams determined to secure their spot in the finals, more thrilling action can be expected in the weeks to come.
