Exciting Finish for Bacon Academy Soccer Team

In Ledyard, unfolding drama marked the pivotal soccer match between Bacon Academy and Ledyard, resulting in a tie that ended with Ledyard clinching victory through a penalty shootout. The match, which held implications for the season standings, saw Bacon Academy earning a 1-1 tie during regulation. Senior captain Eddie Hageman kicked off the scoring for Bacon in the first half, capitalizing on a setup by junior Zach Russo.

The second half brought a spark of life for Ledyard, as Ben Crowe tied the game by scoring from close range after a scramble in front of the Bobcats’ goal with an assist from Sean O’Brien. The match was a defensive battle, with both teams showing commendable efforts. Bacon’s goalkeeper, Zach Carroll, made three saves, while Ledyard’s Paulo Templeton was busy with eight saves throughout the game. In the end, the game relied on penalties, where Ledyard triumphed 4-3, with Templeton emerging as the hero by making two crucial saves during the shootout.

With this match under their belt, Bacon Academy is set to move forward confidently into the Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) Tournament as they clinched first place in ECC Division II. Their performance this season has earned them a first-round bye, giving them a rare opportunity to rest and prepare.

Meanwhile, the competition continued across other fields as East Lyme dominated Norwich Free Academy with a score of 3-0. Highlights included goals by Caleb Trost, who netted two, and Garrison Biggs, further establishing East Lyme’s position with an impressive record of 12-0-2 for the season.

As the fall season progresses, the intensity of high school sports remains palpable, with teams fighting for top positions and aiming for championship glory.
