Divine Savior Holy Angels Dominates Girls’ Golf State Championships with Record-Breaking Performance

Madison – In a thrilling display of talent, the Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) girls’ golf team has successfully defended their title, claiming victory as the Division 1 state champion at the University Ridge Golf Course. DSHA finished with an impressive two-day total of 637, leaving their nearest rival, Prescott, behind by 29 strokes. Prescott made the jump to Division 1 this year after winning four consecutive titles in Division 2.

Other notable finishes included Kaukauna, which placed seventh with a total of 693, and Bay Port, who finished ninth with a score of 710.

Individually, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam/Wayland showcased her skills in the tournament by setting a record of 65 in the first round and followed that up with a 73 in the second round. She ended the tournament tied with Payton Haugen of Brookfield East. In a nail-biting playoff, Nelson secured the title with a par, while Haugen finished with a bogey, marking an exciting end to the competition.

Turning to Division 2, Edgewood claimed victory with a score of 756, finishing just four strokes ahead of Spooner. This marked Edgewood’s 16th WIAA state title, and their first win since 2019. Seymour and Freedom rounded out the top finishes in Division 2, with Seymour placing fourth at 793 and Freedom sixth at 865.

Individually in this division, Belle Kongshaug from Colfax/Elk Mound took the individual title with a score of 153, successfully repeating as champion. Morgan Lewis of Seymour came in ninth with a score of 183, and Taylor Miller from Oconto Falls claimed tenth place with a score of 185.

This year’s state tournament showcased remarkable athletic ability and competition among high school golfers, and both DSHA and Edgewood can proudly celebrate their achievements in the state championship.
