Detroit Celebrates as Maye Goes to the Patriots

The city of Detroit is buzzing with excitement as University of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye was selected third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

A Dream Come True

Maye, who becomes Carolina’s 25th first-round draft pick, expressed his gratitude and excitement, stating, “This is a dream come true and something I’ve been working towards for a long time.”

With this selection, Maye becomes the 10th North Carolina quarterback to be drafted into the NFL and the 252nd Tar Heel chosen overall.

Coach’s Pride

UNC head coach Mack Brown shared his joy over Maye’s achievement, saying, “It’s been an absolute joy to coach Drake Maye and we couldn’t be more excited to see him drafted in the first round by the Patriots.”

Maye’s college career at North Carolina was marked by numerous accolades and records. He finished with over 8,000 passing yards, 63 touchdowns, and 1,200 rushing yards.

In 2022, Maye made history by sweeping all four major ACC awards, a feat only achieved by one other player in the conference’s history.

During the 2023 season, Maye further solidified his skills, showcasing his talent both in the air and on the ground while leading a top-ranked rushing offense.

His consistent performance on the field earned him recognition as a Manning Award finalist and a second-team All-ACC selection.
