LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday evening, a deadly crash has left the community in shock. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is currently piecing together the details of a hit-and-run crash that claimed a pedestrian’s life on Hartley Quarter Road.
The unfortunate event occurred around 7:10 p.m.. According to SCHP Corporal Nick Pye, the pedestrian was walking west along Hartley Quarter Road, very close to S.C. 302, sometimes referred to as Pine Street, and just south of Pelion. As the pedestrian walked, an unknown vehicle, also traveling in the same direction, struck them.
Authorities reported that the pedestrian sustained serious injuries from the crash and sadly passed away as a result. As of now, the identity of the victim has not been released, as the Lexington County Coroner’s Office is tasked with sharing further information about the individual involved.
As the news of this tragic accident spreads, it’s hard not to feel the weight of this loss in our community. Incidents like these are unsettling reminders of the importance of road safety, not just for drivers but for pedestrians as well.
While the details of the vehicle involved are still scarce, the SCHP is actively investigating the hit-and-run. They are urging anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has information about the vehicle to come forward. Every little piece of information can help.
Hit-and-runs are often difficult to resolve, but with community assistance, officials are hopeful that someone may have seen something that could lead to finding the responsible party. If you have any knowledge about the vehicle or the circumstances leading up to the crash, you are greatly encouraged to contact the local authorities.
This tragic incident has not only taken a life but has also touched the hearts of many residents in Lexington County. People are coming together, cherishing their loved ones a little more, and reflecting on the fragility of life. Community members are rallying together, sharing their condolences and support for the victim’s family, all while hoping that a similar event doesn’t happen again.
As we navigate our daily lives, it’s crucial to remember the importance of road safety—both for those behind the wheel and for pedestrians. Simple actions, such as obeying speed limits, being aware of surroundings, and ensuring everyone has the right of way, can go a long way in preventing accidents like this.
If you’re out walking at dusk or in low-light conditions, wearing bright or reflective clothing can also help improve visibility. Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe and protect everyone within our community.
As we await further updates from the authorities regarding both the investigation and the identity of the victim, let’s keep the family in our hearts and thoughts during this painful time. Please remember to drive safely, to pay attention, and to look out for one another. Together, we can work towards making our roads a safer place for pedestrians and drivers alike.
